Climate & Company present the EUDR to the Agri-Food Systems Sector Chamber of CEBDS

June 27, 2024

With the entry into force of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in June 2023 (and the 18-month grace period on implementation approaching fast), it is natural that businesses in countries that export to the EU would be interested to know how they will be affected.

With this in mind, our analysts Paula Pinto Zambrano and Sofia Helena Zanella Carra took part in a session organised by the Agri-Food Systems Sector Chamber of the Conselho Empresarial Brasileiro para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável (CEBDS). They presented the EU Deforestation Regulation, detailing its main objectives, scope, requirements, and timeline, as well as the key challenges and opportunities for Brazil.

They also highlighted the progress Brazil has made in terms of compliance tools and presented some EU programmes that aim to support producing countries in complying with the regulation, such as the GIZ SAFE project, where Climate & Company has been working on greening finance.

Finance is an important cross-cutting topic, especially for supporting smallholders in promoting the transition to deforestation-free supply chains. This event was a key step on our work on enhancing cooperation between the EU and Brazil for effectively reducing supply-chain driven deforestation as part of our Sustainable Finance Instruments for Sustainable Land Use Project, financed by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

We want to thank CEBDS and Carla Gheler-Costa for the invitation. It is always great to collaborate with CEBDS!
