Germany lagging behind in biodiversity

Climate & Company featured in an article by Susanne Bergius from the Tagesspiegel Background who was reporting on a conference convened by the German Government’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Committee (SFB) and the Sustainable Finance Science Platform (WSF) to address the urgent issue of biodiversity loss. After discussing best practices and challenges in the real and financial sectors, experts are now focusing on data availability and regulatory measures to promote a nature-positive economy.
While the SFB typically deals with broader regulatory issues, the biodiversity crisis took centre stage. Key participants included Esther Wandel from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Sven Gentner from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Financial Markets, and Elisa Famery from the French Finance Directorate. Ingmar Jürgens, Co-Founder and CEO of Climate & Company, advocated for clear ideas, recognizing that 80% of the EU’s nature-related risks lie beyond its borders. However, effective regulation remains a challenge.
