Roundtable: Women, Finance & Biodiversity Dialogue

October 14, 2024

Join us at COP16 to explore how we can support women’s leadership in promoting deforestation-free supply chains, biodiversity conversation & sustainable development.

Women are key contributors in agriculture and land management but often encounter significant barriers to accessing resources and capital. Therefore, to empower women, it is crucial to integrate gender aspects into financial solutions for deforestation-free supply chains. In this side-event, we aim to explore how tailored financial solutions can support women’s leadership in promoting deforestation-free supply chains, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. This session will provide a platform for cross-sectoral exchange, highlighting the unique perspectives and innovative approaches of women working at the intersection of finance and sustainability.

Join us to be inspired by their stories and to discuss how we can collectively break down barriers and create enabling environments for women to thrive in these critical areas.

This side-event is proposed in the context of the SAFE – Sustainable Agriculture for Forest Ecosystems project, implemented by GIZ and developed in collaboration with Climate & Company. The project Solutions for Mobilising Financial Sources and Enhancing the Financial Framework for Investments on Deforestation-Free Value Chains aims to identify and foster solutions to mobilise financial sources, especially for vulnerable groups, and enhance gender-transformative financial frameworks for investments in deforestation-free supply chains.

This event will start with an overview of financial mechanisms mapped under the SAFE Project, focusing on instruments that empower women in sustainable production and forest conservation. Following this input, we will engage in a dialogue with women leaders from diverse fields—forest conservation, agriculture, cooperatives, and financial institutions—sharing their experiences, challenges, and successes in accessing finance for their initiatives.
