Climate & Company, together with Ruhr University Bochum and project partners, is hosting the final workshop of the ClimLabels research project – a three-year initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). As the project approaches its conclusion, this event offers a timely opportunity to reflect on its key findings and policy implications.

Context: Transition finance is gaining traction as a vital tool to fund industries transitioning to lower emissions. A window of opportunity in the EU’s sustainable finance agenda is the ongoing review of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), scheduled for Q4 2025. Prominent voices, including the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs), have proposed replacing the current Article 6 (“normal”), 8 (“light green”), and 9 (“dark green”) categories with more meaningful classifications, including a specific category for transition finance. This political and regulatory momentum provides an opportunity to establish actionable criteria that align financial flows with environmental (transition) objectives.
