Thomas Pioch

Thomas joined Climate & Company in April 2024 as a Senior Analyst, having previously supported the team as an External Advisor. He specializes in climate and trade, focusing on developing sustainable energy transition value chains for the decarbonization of the European economy. His work includes policy files such as CBAM, EU ETS, the Critical Raw Materials Act, and the Clean Industrial Deal. Additionally, Thomas has developed frameworks to support emerging economies in implementing long-term low emission development strategies.

Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Socioeconomics, a Master’s degree in International Business and Sustainability, and a PhD in non-financial accounting. He has published studies on the implications of firms’ carbon emission data and their quality issues, the consequences of mandatory climate reporting regimes, and the challenges of climate policy regulations within the EU ETS. His expertise extends to policy briefs on sustainability and climate regulation in the EU, as well as studies investigating managers’ motivations for climate action.

In his leisure time, Thomas enjoys gardening, growing his own vegetables, painting, and cycling through his hometown of Lübeck.
