Press Release: Climate & Company CEO Ingmar Juergens appointed to the EU Platform on Sustainable Finance

The EU Commission has just announced the members of the third edition of its expert panel on sustainable finance policy, the EU Platform on Sustainable Finance. Newly appointed member Ingmar Juergens, CEO Climate & Company, sees the platform as opportunity to strengthen the evidence-based implementation of the EU Green Deal after strong political headwinds.

“Last year, the EU Commission was under considerable political pressure to revise the Green Deal. Many decisions were taken at the political level. As global leaders are gathering in Davos this week to discuss the future of our economy, the Commission’s establishment of the third Platform sends a clear message: Europe continues to trust in the power of sustainable finance and in fact-based dialogue with experts,” explains Ingmar Juergens, CEO of Climate & Company.

“Even if our tasks are not always the most glamorous, they are essential: they create clarity for investors and companies and reassure the public that we remain serious about the transition to a sustainable economy. Most companies and financial institutions are working hard to transform their sectors and business models. Now they need reliable guardrails to minimize risks and plan their transition strategies and investments,” says Juergens.

Under the leadership of Spanish economist and Commissioner of the Spanish Financial Markets Authority (CNMV) Helena Viñes Fiestas, the Platform will advise the various departments of the European Commission on controversial issues such as the Omnibus Package. The agenda also includes reviewing the sustainability taxonomy, revising the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), and fundamental tasks such as the monitoring of capital flows and transition finance.
