Sino-German Cooperation on Sustainable Finance

March 26, 2024

What?

Knowledge-sharing among key Sustainable Finance experts in China, the EU and Germany

We facilitate a comprehensive exchange between German, Chinese, and EU stakeholders in sustainable finance. This involves enabling dialogues to discuss topics such as sustainable finance policies and products (debt, equity and insurance), transition finance, and disclosures through workshops, conferences, and capacity-building trainings. We foster knowledge-sharing and collaboration among key experts in the field.

Why?

A sustainable and resilient future requires international collaboration

Driven by the imperative to address climate change and promote sustainable development globally, both Germany and China have demonstrated commitment through sustainable finance initiatives like the Sustainable Finance Advisory Council and China’s guidance document on climate investment. However, despite their ambitious sustainability goals, there remains room for improvement through mutual learning. Enhancing collaboration between these nations is crucial for overcoming challenges and maximizing the impact of sustainable finance initiatives. Through joint efforts, we aim to bridge gaps, share expertise, and accelerate progress towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

How?

Nominating the right experts to address the most relevant topics

We collaborate closely with stakeholders to curate relevant topics and identify the most suitable experts for presentations and workshops. By bringing together key experts to discuss both the challenges and opportunities of innovative sustainable finance solutions in China, the EU and Germany, we facilitate meaningful exchanges and generate impactful insights in the realm of sustainable and climate finance.

The Kick-off workshop of the Sino-German Expert Dialogues on Sustainable Finance Products and Practices, jointly hosted by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), and Climate & Company, convened in a hybrid format at the IFS Office in Beijing on March 14th, 2024. You can find the full press release here. This was the first in a series of workshops, so stay tuned for future updates!
