Promoting Sustainable Supply Chains: EU-Brazil Collaboration on Beef
August 28, 2023
Sustainable supply chains in the EU and Brazil are a prerequisite for the protection of nature and preventing climate change. The cattle industry plays an important role in supply chains, specifically regarding preventing deforestation. To enhance the sustainability of beef supply chains, we want to promote dialogue and collaboration between stakeholders in the EU and Brazil. Therefore, Climate & Company and Amigos da Terra – Amazônia Brasileira are hosting this panel discussion with the support of BRASFI (Brazilian Alliance for Sustainable Finance and Investments). This event is part of the Amazon Woche, organised by the Embassy of Brazil in Berlin.
In this panel, we will address the specificities of the EU and Brazilian regulatory framework on deforestation-free supply chains, challenges and solutions for implementation.

More on preventing supply-chain driven deforestation
This event is part of our project to prevent supply-chain driven deforestation.
We have published a technical note for Brazilian stakeholders to provide a summary of relevant information on the European Union (EU) Regulation for Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR). It is available in English and Portuguese. In this technical note, we present the scope of the EUDR, the deforestation due diligence requirements, a timeline for its application and the aspects which are still under development or to be reviewed. Operators and traders in Brazil (and globally) are expected to abide by the EUDR when exporting certain commodities to the EU by the end of 2024. Accordingly, this document aims to support preparatory actions of the affected stakeholders.
