Dr. Oliver Herrmann

Oliver is a quantitative economist who has wide-ranging experience in policy analysis and advice, applied empirical economics, statistics and data science, finance, and policy evaluation across a variety of sectors and policy fields, and at national (France, Germany, New Zealand) and international level (European Commission, United Nations). Oliver is recognised for pragmatic solutions that both deliver results and enable strategic reflections. He has led more than 20 high-profile and highly complex evaluation processes and budgets from preparation and design through to completion according to agreed terms of reference and timeline and that led to real policy changes and better outcomes.

Oliver obtained a PhD on econometric optimization techniques in Germany and did research on international business demographic in France. From 2001 he worked as strategy and technology consultant for the VDI Technology Centre in Düsseldorf providing strategy and technology consultancy services for large companies and public authorities. He worked as Policy Officer at the European Commission between 2005 and 2010 and drafted legislative proposals, impact assessments and evaluations in the area of enterprise and industrial policy, research and innovation, economic reforms, energy and transport. Oliver was Senior Evaluator and Acting Manager at the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment of New Zealand between 2010 and 2013. He led various evaluations using economic and administrative microdata. He was Director of Statistics at the United Nations World Tourism Organization and implemented projects with international donors in more than 15 countries world-wide between 2013 and 2016. Before joining Climate & Company, Oliver worked for four years as General Manager and Portfolio Manager for a private investment company in Vienna.
